How we collect and compare product data
This page explains where our numbers come from, how we calculate them, and how often they are updated.
1. Where the data comes from
Label data. Serving size, amount of active ingredient per serving, number of servings, ingredient form, and sweeteners come from the product label as shown on the brand’s official website. When a brand does not publish the label, we use the label shown on a major retailer’s product page and note the source.
Prices. Prices come from retailer and brand websites, and where available, from product data feeds provided through affiliate networks. We compare products in the same currency only. For some retailers, including Amazon, we do not display a price in our tables and link you to the current price instead.
Certifications. When a product is listed as third-party certified (for example NSF Certified for Sport or Informed Sport), we check the certifier’s public product database. If we cannot confirm a certification, we do not list it.
Ingredient trademarks. Claims such as Creapure® are recorded as stated on the label. We rely on the brand’s labeling for these claims.
2. How we calculate cost per dose
For each product:
Cost per dose = Price ÷ (Number of servings × Active ingredient per serving) × Reference dose
For creatine, the reference dose is 5 g, the amount most commonly used in research and on product labels.
Example: a product priced at $30.00 with 100 servings of 5 g creatine costs $30.00 ÷ (100 × 5 g) × 5 g = $0.30 per 5 g.
We use the active ingredient amount, not the scoop weight. A 7 g scoop that contains 5 g of creatine is counted as 5 g.
Shipping costs, taxes, subscription discounts, and coupon codes are not included, because they vary by buyer and location.
3. How products are ordered
By default, tables are sorted by cost per dose, lowest first. You can re-sort any table by clicking a column header. Brands cannot pay to change their position.
4. How often data is updated
- Prices: refreshed on a regular schedule. Each table shows the date prices were last checked.
- Label data: reviewed when a product is added and re-checked periodically, since brands sometimes change formulas.
- Certifications: re-checked periodically against the certifier’s database.
Prices can change at any time. The price shown by the retailer at checkout always applies.
5. What this method does not tell you
Our tables compare labels, prices, and certifications. They do not measure taste, mixability, or how a product works for you personally, and we have not lab-tested the products ourselves. Please talk to a qualified health professional before starting any supplement.
6. Corrections
If you see an error, please tell us through our Contact page. We review every report and update the data when a correction is confirmed.
